Why Host a Sense of Place Discovery?
Assess Place-Making
Participants will describe their feelings as they navigate your site. Do all participants feel safe, comfortable, and welcome? This will help you determine if and how you would like to make changes to your site.
Build Collaborative Partnerships
Site staff and BFF facilitators (including those with mobility challenges), will collaborate on facilitating the Discovery. This is a fun experience, one well worth the 90 minutes of time that Discoveries take. Shared understandings of accessibility, inclusion, and universal design grow opportunities for lasting partnerships.
Identify Accessibility Issues
The Discovery can help you identify features of your site that are difficult for some users to navigate. By making your site more accessible and user friendly, you ensure that all people can navigate and use your site effectively and comfortably.
Improve Overall Comfort and Usability
Site features that provide accessibility for users with disabilities benefit all users, leading to a better user experience for everyone.
Enhance Community-Wide Reputation
Building a strong Sense of Place at your site for all staff, customers, and community members will attract people to your site and will grow a loyal base. Demonstrating a commitment to accessibility and inclusivity fosters a positive image and shows that your organization values all users.
Find Real World Solutions
Sense of Place Discoveries include a discussion of universal design and how it can be used to help your site and services be more welcoming and comfortable for everyone! When people with varied life experiences utilizing the space in a variety of roles come together to find attainable changes and share resources, it's amazing how quickly desired changes can happen.
